SHIPPENSBURG, Pa. – Freshman Jeff Ballard successfully converted a cross from redshirt-junior Derrick Roy with 11 minutes left in regulation Wednesday night as the Shippensburg University men's soccer team prevailed in PSAC play over Lock Haven, 1-0.

Shippensburg (6-5-1, 3-3 PSAC) improved to 5-1-1 at home this season in large part to a prolonged attack in the second half. After both Lock Haven (4-8, 2-5) and SU managed seven shots in the first half, the Raiders sustained pressure in the offensive zone and finally converted with Ballard's third goal of the season.

One minute before the go-ahead goal, Roy headed a cross off the post that appeared to trickle over the goal line before LHU goalkeeper Jonathan Howitt picked it up, but the play was deemed to continue.

SU's best chance of the first half came off the foot of Roy, who took a feed from senior Oli Templeton, dribbled around Howitt, but sent a shot that trickled through the crease and eventually went wide off a defender's boot.

Just over 10 minutes into the second half, Howitt again denied the Raiders at point-blank range. After a blocked shot off a corner kick, SU re-entered the attacking zone and got a wide cross from senior Jonathan DeNicola that went directly onto the head of oncoming junior James Connor. Howitt was in the right place at the right time, as the header went right into his hands.

Senior Clay Sale made four saves in goal for his third solo shutout of the season.

Shippensburg will travel to Bloomsburg this Saturday for a 1 p.m. clash with the Huskies at Sports Stadium.
