SHIPPENSBURG, Pa. – The Shippensburg University softball team fêted its four seniors on a sunny Saturday afternoon from Robb Field in between a pair of walk-off victories over PSAC Western Division opponent Edinboro, winning Game 1, 3-2, before taking Game 2, 1-0 in nine innings.

Shippensburg (14-18) received key contributions from all four of its seniors in Saturday's doubleheader.

Emily Parkins made her first start of the season and threw a complete game, allowing two earned runs on seven hits in seven innings of work. It was her first victory of 2012 and improved her career record to 7-5.

Meg Lehman worked both games as the starting catcher – collecting two hits in the opener and dropping down a key sacrifice bunt in Game 2.

Chelsea Kendall – limited to hitting because of injury – cracked a single and a key sacrifice fly in Game 1 to put the Raiders on the board. She also scored the game-winning run in the nightcap as a pinch runner.

Rochelle Troise got the start in right field for both games and hit several balls on a line, but was 0-for-6 at the plate until her final at-bat.

However, with two outs in the ninth inning of a scoreless Game 2, Troise came up and smacked a 1-2 pitch into the right-center field gap – plating Kendall to give SU its second walk-off win. It was just the second career double and seventh career hit for Troise – a veteran of 55 games who had just three RBIs to her name entering Saturday's twinbill.

The first game had just as much drama – with Shippensburg trailing 2-1 entering its final at-bat. After one-out singles by sophomore Hilary Lyons and Lehman, freshman Taylor Weisman came to the plate and sent a hard grounder to third base that went through the legs of the Fighting Scot fielder.

Lyons rounded third on the play and ended up scoring safely after the throw from left field sailed over the catcher's head and hit the backstop. This allowed junior Kiersten Darhower, who was pinch running for Lehman, to reach third base. One batter later, freshman Maddie Justice singled home Darhower to end the game.

Overall, sophomore Rachel Shumway reached base in all seven of her plate appearances in Saturday's doubleheader – going 2-for-2 with a hit by pitch in the opener and 0-for-0 with three walks and a hit by pitch in Game 2. Lyons had three hits in the doubleheader while Justice provided two in the opener.

Shippensburg will conclude its stretch of four home doubleheaders in eight days when it plays host to East Stroudsburg at 2:30 p.m. Tuesday in a twinbill from Robb Field.

Game 1: Shippensburg 3, Edinboro 2

The first runs of the opener came in the fourth inning – with each team scoring one. Edinboro designated player Ashley Black launched a home run over the left-field fence with two outs in the top half before Shippensburg rallied in the bottom half.

SU loaded the bases with no outs on a Weisman walk, Justice single and Shumway being hit by a pitch. Kendall poked the ball out to center field deep enough to score freshman Jess Harding, who was pinch running for Weisman. Justice and Shumway each advanced a base on the throw home. However, the Fighting Scots evaded danger after a lineout and a groundout.

Edinboro regained the lead in the sixth after a one-out double from Aimee Sisson, a passed ball and a sacrifice fly by Jessica VanDamia. After allowing a single and a double, Parkins escaped further danger by inducing a groundout to end the inning.

SU had nine hits in the opening game, including three in the decisive final frame. Parkins was efficient from the circle, needing just 86 pitches to complete seven innings.

Game 2: Shippensburg 1, Edinboro 0 (9 innings)

Troise's game-winning double in the ninth inning was the only extra-base hit in a pitcher's duel between Edinboro's Kari Falk and Shippensburg's Liz Parkins. Falk allowed just the one earned run in 8.2 innings, scattering five hits and five walks while striking out two.

Parkins was once again sensational from the circle, as she yielded just four singles in nine innings while striking out eight. She did not walk a batter. Her biggest trouble came in the sixth inning, as a fielding error and a fielder's choice on a sacrifice bunt prefaced a successful sacrifice that put two Fighting Scots in scoring position with one out. Parkins hunkered down by striking out each of the next two batters to silence the threat.

SU loaded the bases in the sixth inning with two outs, but Falk induced a pop-up back to her to end the inning. Lyons led off the eighth inning with a single and was sacrificed over to second base but was ultimately stranded there.
