Box Score

SHIPPENSBURG, Pa. – The Shippensburg University women's lacrosse team overcame a tough afternoon on draw controls and a four-goal run from visiting Kutztown by scoring six consecutive goals in the second half to outlast the pesky Golden Bears, winning Tuesday's PSAC Eastern Division match 15-7 from Robb Sports Complex.

Shippensburg (6-3, 2-2 PSAC) maintained a steady defensive effort in Tuesday's match, limiting Kutztown to just one goal in the first half while building a five-goal lead entering the intermission. However, the play between the two teams did become sloppy at times, as both the Raiders and Golden Bears combined for 48 turnovers in the contest.

Senior Lauren Hauck scored the opening goals of each half and finished with her third hat trick of the season. After being held off the score sheet for the first time in 12 contests on Saturday at The Rock, Hauck responded Tuesday with three goals, two assists, two caused turnovers and two groundballs.

Junior Lindsey Kennedy and freshman Courtney Kennedy each totaled two goals, an assist and three groundball pickups. Sophomore Bennett Widlake had a team-high three draw controls in addition to assisting on two goals and scoring a tally of her own in the first half.

Kutztown (3-7, 0-5 PSAC) controlled 16 of the 24 draws in Tuesday's game and made its run early on in the second half. Trailing 8-2 just over eight minutes into the final frame, the Golden Bears proceeded to win four consecutive draws and score goals after each control.

The first three tallies came on free positions. Leeann Pica, who recorded an impressive six draw controls and six groundballs in Tuesday's game, scored unassisted with 19:39 remaining to make the score 8-6.

SU ended the run a little more than three minutes later when freshman Garrie Grenfell scored twice in a 44-second span. It was the start of a six-goal run for the Raiders, as senior Jessica Schubach made her season debut and netted her first goal of the season with 12:32 to play before assisting on a goal by junior Roxanne Brown.

Hauck and Lindsey Kennedy capped off the run to put SU up 14-6 with 3:30 to play. Sophomore Kayla Dalzell also scored twice in the contest, including the final tally of the game with 45 seconds remaining.

Senior Ali Cross posted her third double-digit saves total in the last four games, stopping 11 shots en route to the victory. Cross has compiled a .516 save percentage in six games this season.

Defensively, senior Meagan Borgoyn and sophomore Liz French combined for nine groundball pickups.

Shippensburg will travel to face No. 9 West Chester on Friday at 4 p.m. from Vonnie Gros Field. It will be just the second home game of the season for the Golden Rams, who will be kicking off a seven-game home stand with Friday's game. WCU defeated Millersville on Tuesday, 18-5.
