LOCK HAVEN, Pa. – Freshman
Maddie Justice drove in a run with a single in the first inning and freshman
Jessie Trammell drove in another with a double in the sixth as the Shippensburg University softball team held on for a 2-1 Game 2 victory on Sunday afternoon to force a doubleheader split at PSAC Central foe Lock Haven. The Raiders lost the first game, 5-0.
Senior pitcher
Emily Parkins earned her second win of the season in two innings of work in the nightcap triumph. Sophomore
Emily Estep earned the start in the circle for the Raiders (16-22) and struck out three batters in the first two innings.
Freshman
Makenzie Lynn gave up one run in pitching the fifth and sixth innings before freshman
Liz Parkins fanned one in the seventh to pick up her second save of the season.
Justice and Trammell each went 1-for-3 in Game 2, while sophomore outfielder
Hilary Lyons senior third baseman
Meg Lehman and sophomore outfielder
Marygrace Serra each added one hit.
Shippensburg's previously scheduled home game against Shepherd this Tuesday has been canceled and will not be made up. The Raiders return to action on Friday with a home doubleheader against Kutztown beginning at 2:30 p.m.
Game 1: Lock Haven 5, Shippensburg 0
Sophomore
Rachel Shumway was the only Raider to get on base unassisted by a Lock Haven (21-16) error. The second baseman singled to lead off the second inning and later walked with two outs in the seventh.
Lynn earned the start in Game 1 and gave up five hits and three earned runs while striking out two in two innings of work. Justice gave up three hits over the next two innings while
Liz Parkins gave up one hit in pitching the fifth and sixth frames.
Game 2: Shippensburg 2, Lock Haven 1
Lyons led off the game with a single and advanced to second in the next at-bat on a fielder's choice from Lehman, allowing Justice to drive Lyons home with an RBI single to right field for a 1-0 SU lead.
Shippensburg managed just one hit over the next four innings, however, before plating a second run in the sixth. Lehman led off the frame with a single to right field, allowing Trammell to plate Lehman's pinch runner, freshman
Jess Harding, in the next at-bat with a double down the left field line for a 2-0 lead.
A Lock Haven RBI double cut the deficit in the bottom half of the sixth, but Lynn escaped the inning with a pop-up and a fly-out to end the Bald Eagles' rally.
