SHIPPENSBURG, Pa. – Junior
Dylan Edgar scored a career-high 24 points and matched a career high with 12 rebounds on Saturday afternoon, but his first double-double of the season was not enough as the Shippensburg University men's basketball team dropped a close home game to PSAC Eastern Division rival Kutztown, 68-63.
Neither Shippensburg (2-5, 0-3 PSAC) nor Kutztown (2-6, 1-2 PSAC) held a lead by more than six points in Saturday's game, which featured 10 lead changes. The Golden Bears, however, led for the majority of the final frame. SU took a brief one-point lead with 9:18 remaining on a jumper by sophomore
Akil Anderson, but the Golden Bears answered 54 seconds later and would lead for the remainder of the game.
Both teams shot 50 percent or better in the first half – including a 60.7 percent proficiency for the Golden Bears – but the visitors' lead was just three points at the intermission. KU shot 47 percent (8-of-17) from three-point range and committed just two turnovers in the second half.
Edgar was 10-of-13 from the floor and also was credited with two blocked shots. Five of his 12 rebounds were of the offensive variety.
Anderson was also sturdy for the Raiders on Saturday, scoring a career-high 15 points on 7-of-13 shooting. He also had two rebounds and an assist.
Freshman
Joe Lococo had 12 points, two rebounds, two assists and two steals. He was 4-of-7 from three-point range, while the rest of the Raiders were 0-of-6 from long distance.
Sophomore
Reggie Charles had just four points but excelled with a season-high nine assists. Charles also had three rebounds and three steals. Fellow sophomore
Sam Pygatt contributed eight points and six rebounds.
Assistant coach
Herb Bowers was honored before the game for his 40 years of service to SU men's basketball.
