Herb Bowers has been traveling with the men’s basketball program for 40 years and assisted with coaching duties throughout that time. He has been a mainstay on the SU bench and will enter his 40th season assisting men's basketball in 2012-13.
While helping the basketball team, Bowers served as the police chief and director of public safety at Shippensburg for 32 years before retiring in 2003.
Bowers earned his bachelor’s degree in criminal justice from Shippensburg in 1979. He also earned his master’s degree in police administration from Shippensburg in 1986.
He is also the father-in-law of head coach Dave Springer.
