Box Score

Junior Jill Edwards became the fifth member of SU's 1,000 kills/1,000 digs club on Saturday afternoon as the Shippensburg University volleyball team wrapped up its 2012 regular season with a 3-1 win over West Chester from Hollinger Field House. Set scores were 25-21, 24-26, 25-20, 25-19.

The match was the first between the two teams over the course of a four-day span, as the No. 2-seeded Raiders will host the No. 3-seeded Golden Rams at 7 p.m. Tuesday from Heiges Field House in the quarterfinal round of the 2012 PSAC Volleyball Championships.

Shippensburg (26-10, 14-5 PSAC) has achieved its second-most wins in a season in school history, trailing only the 2007 that finished 30-12 overall and remains the only SU squad to qualify for the NCAA Tournament.

Edwards led all players Saturday with 16 kills and also recorded 10 digs, resulting in her 17th double-double of the season. She was one of two Raiders with double-digit kills, as senior Jenny Pry chipped in with 10 kills and hit .129 from the floor.

Freshmen middle blockers Faith Athey and Taylor Gottshall continue to play extremely well for the Raiders. Athey had nine kills, two solo blocks and four block assists while hitting .316. Gottshall had eight kills and four block assists while hitting .333.

Senior libero Lauren Murphy was outstanding in the back row, leading all players with 18 digs. Senior setter Andrea Heimsoth had 39 assists but also provided six digs, three blocks and four of SU's nine service aces.

The Raiders had 13 blocks in Saturday's match, with senior Rachel Smicker entering the fray with four block assists to go along with four kills, four assists and five digs.

Tuesday night's PSAC quarterfinal matchup will be SU's first home playoff match since 2007, a year that the Raiders hosted the PSAC Tournament. The Raiders fell to Clarion in the '07 semifinals, 3-1.

Notes: Shippensburg swept the season series over five of the six PSAC Eastern Division schools, with the only two losses coming against Lock Haven…the Raiders only dropped two sets to PSAC East schools besides Lock Haven, one to Kutztown and one Saturday to West Chester…the 2007 squad finished 10-0 against the PSAC East as Western Division matches were not considered toward a team's conference record (SU went 12-6 overall versus the PSAC in 2007 and Lock Haven was in the Western Division at that time)…the other members of SU's 1,000/1,000 club are Alyssa Kilgore (1,339K/1,362D), Colleen Toomey (1,255K/1,184D), Missy Pierce (1,242K/1,847D) and Michelle Doughty (1,068K/1,638D).
