Box Score

The Shippensburg University women's volleyball team clinched a 2012 PSAC Championships berth on Tuesday night after completing a season sweep of PSAC Eastern Division rival Millersville with a straight-set road victory over the Marauders from Pucillo Gymnasium by set scores of 25-21, 25-19 and 25-22.

Shippensburg (22-9, 10-4 PSAC East) is just one-half game behind Lock Haven at the top of the division and is tied with California (Pa.) of the Western Division for the most overall wins by any PSAC team. SU will be competing in the PSAC tournament for the sixth straight season under head coach Leanne Piscotty.

Junior Jill Edwards was a vigilant attacker on Tuesday night, leading all players with 17 kills and three service aces while hitting .267 from the floor.

Senior setter Andrea Heimsoth contributed 33 assists, 12 digs, three block assists and two service aces – once again serving as a valuable all-around presence for the Raiders.

Junior Samantha Edwards had some strong hits off the bench, recording six kills and two block assists over the course of two sets. Senior Rachel Smicker earned a start and made the most of her time on the court with five kills, four digs, two assists and no hitting errors.

Freshman Taylor Gottshall had five kills, three digs and two block assists.

Shippensburg travels to Kutztown on Friday for a 7 p.m. clash with the Golden Bears.

Notes: A victory over Kutztown would guarantee a home PSAC quarterfinal match for the Raiders on Nov. 13 from Heiges Field House…SU's playoff berth was clinched because it cannot finish with more than nine losses against conference teams, while Millersville, ESU, Kutztown and Cheyney have already amassed 10 or more PSAC setbacks this season.
