SHIPPENSBURG, Pa. – The Shippensburg University women's volleyball team used an efficient hitting performance to come away with another impressive conference victory on Friday night, sweeping West Chester in PSAC East play from Heiges Field House. Set scores were 25-17, 25-23 and 25-16.
Shippensburg (19-9, 8-4 PSAC East) will complete the first half of its divisional schedule tomorrow but has already matched its conference win total from a year ago despite having seven PSAC East games remaining on its slate.
SU is in second place in the Eastern Division, 1.5 games behind Lock Haven, but four games ahead of third-place Millersville.
The Raiders hit .250 as a team, committing just 14 attack errors and receiving kills from eight different players. Junior
Jill Edwards was impressive once again, leading all players with 12 kills on just one error and hitting .379. Her 11 digs resulted in her 14th double-double of the season.

Samantha Edwards was outstanding off the bench, ripping eight kills and hitting .462 from the floor. She also had two assists and two blocks.
Senior
Jenny Pry had seven kills, while freshman
Taylor Gottshall had four kills, four digs and two block assists.
Senior
Andrea Heimsoth provided 28 assists, seven digs, two kills and two service aces. Fellow senior
Lauren Murphy had seven digs.
The Raiders built a 19-9 lead in the first set before closing the frame with a Gottshall kill. The second set was the closest of the night, with the Golden Rams battling back from a deficit to tie the score at 23-23 before a
Samantha Edwards kills and a block by Pry and Gottshall ended the frame in the Raiders favor.
SU led by as many as 10 in the third set, 22-12, before a kill from freshman
Cristen Harris concluded the match.
West Chester (13-14, 3-9 PSAC) got six kills and nine digs from Lexi Kegerise. Setters Mary Faust and Tori Hutchinson each recorded 12 assists. Cara Reese had four kills and three block assists.
Shippensburg will host Cheyney at 1 p.m. and Shepherd at 3 p.m. on Saturday from Heiges Field House. SU will honor its five seniors – Pry, Murphy, Heimsoth,
Erin Flick and
Rachel Smicker – before the Shepherd match at approximately 2:45 p.m.
