SHIPPENSBURG, Pa. – The Shippensburg University women's volleyball team used another balanced performance to continue its winning ways in PSAC play, recording a straight-set victory Friday night over Eastern Division rival East Stroudsburg from Heiges Field House. Set scores were 25-19, 25-21 and 25-13.

Shippensburg (17-7, 7-3 PSAC) got a marvelous effort from senior setter Andrea Heimsoth, who contributed 30 assists, four service aces, three kills and two digs. Senior Erin Flick and freshman Taylor Gottshall both performed well from the middle, with each ripping seven kills and recording two block assists. Flick hit .429.

East Stroudsburg (7-12, 4-7 PSAC) struggled on the attack, totaling 25 errors and hitting a negative percentage for the match. Other than a 14-kill, .205 hitting effort from Kaitlin Behrens, the rest of ESU's squad combined for just eight kills. Freshman libero Maddie Hutchison impressed with a match-high 13 digs.

The Raiders scored seven consecutive points early in the first set to build a 12-5 advantage. SU had 15 kills in the opening frame and hit .257 as a team. The Warriors eventually rallied within three points, 22-19, before a Flick kill, Behrens error and Heimsoth service ace sealed the set for the Raiders.

One of the most crucial points of the match came late in the second set with SU holding a 22-20 lead. An attack by ESU's Annabelle Charlton seemed destined for a kill, but a diving dig by freshman Laura Plank kept the play alive. Heimsoth then offered a reactionary set toward the middle where senior Rachel Smicker slammed her only kill of the evening. Plank's hustle helped the Raiders build their advantage to three before closing out the set three points later.

The squads combined for 16 attack errors and five service errors in a sloppy final set that was controlled by Shippensburg. The Raiders raced out to a 19-8 lead and ended up closing the match on blocks by Gottshall and freshman Lauren Hess.

Junior Jill Edwards led the Raiders with nine kills and is now 22 shy of surpassing Alyssa Kilgore's school record. Ten different players had at least one kill for Shippensburg on Friday night.

SU hosts Lock Haven at 1 p.m. Saturday in a battle of the Eastern Division's top two teams before taking on CIAA front-runner Chowan at 5 p.m. Both matches will be held inside Heiges Field House. LHU dropped a four-setter to the Marauders on Friday night.
