SHIPPENSBURG, Pa. – The Shippensburg University men's basketball team overcame a sluggish start on Tuesday night with a 27-0 run to open the second half and eventually ease its way past non-conference opponent Penn State University Wilkes-Barre, 86-53, from Heiges Field House.
Shippensburg (5-7) outscored Wilkes-Barre 45-5 during its decisive second-half run that spanned the first 15:05 of the frame. The Raiders also held the visiting Mountain Lions scoreless for the opening 6:38 of the second half to take control.
Sophomore
Dylan Edgar used his size advantage to score a career-high 21 points on 9-of-10 shooting. Edgar scored 14 of his 21 points in the first half. He finished the game with seven rebounds and was 3-of-5 at the free-throw line.
Senior
Jordan Stasyszyn scored all 20 of his points in the second half, shooting 7-of-8 from the field in the final frame and converting all six of his free-throw attempts. Tuesday's contest was the fifth time this season that Stasyszyn has scored 20 or more points in a contest.
Freshman
Reggie Charles dished out a career-high 10 assists – including eight in the second half. Charles added six points, three rebounds and three steals while committing just one turnover.
Senior
Dane Lauber earned another start and finished with 10 points, five rebounds and five assists. Fellow senior
Craig Van Scyoc was 4-of-5 from three-point range and tallied 14 points in the contest. Freshman
Akil Anderson played a season-high 12 minutes and finished with six points, two rebounds and two assists.
PSU Wilkes-Barre (5-7) held a three-point advantage at the intermission on the strength of 44-percent shooting and a 20-16 rebound edge. The Mountain Lions, who defeated Bloomsburg last season, shot just 28 percent down the stretch and committed 13 turnovers in the second half.
Shippensburg returns to action at 7:30 p.m. Friday from the Mercyhurst Athletic Center in a PSAC clash with the Lakers.
