MILLERSVILLE, Pa. – The Shippensburg University volleyball team dropped another heartbreaking road match on Tuesday night from Pucillo Gymnasium, losing a 3-2 decision to the rally-driven Marauders of Millersville. Set scores were 20-25, 20-25, 25-23, 25-22 and 15-8.
Shippensburg (3-12, 0-5 PSAC) held a 2-0 lead in Tuesday's match but could not hold on for the win. After ripping 12 kills and hitting over .130 in each of the first two sets, the Raiders totaled 23 attack errors over the final three sets, including a negative team hitting percentage in each of the last two frames.
Junior
Erin Flick continued her efficient hitting for Shippensburg, totaling a near double-double with 10 kills and nine digs. Flick, who also had three service aces and three block assists on Tuesday night, has totaled 23 kills and hit .276 over the course of the last three PSAC Eastern Division matches.
Sophomore
Jill Edwards led Shippensburg with 14 kills and contributed 13 digs for her fifth double-double of the season.
Junior
Andrea Heimsoth was credited with five kills, the second-highest single-game total in her career, to go along with 41 assists and 12 digs. Senior
Libby Woffindin ripped five service aces to go along with nine kills.
In the third set, SU was two points away from a victory. After rallying from a 22-18 deficit in the third, SU tied the score at 23-23 before Millersville won the set with back-to-back kills. The Raiders also held a 19-18 lead in the fourth set.
Tuesday marked Shippensburg's sixth five-set match of the season and its ninth multiple-set match through 15 contests.
Shippensburg hosts Cheyney at 7 p.m. Thursday from Heiges Field House.
