SHIPPENSBURG, Pa. – The Shippensburg University men's soccer team could not capitalize on a bevy of first-half scoring chances and fell victim to a late goal by Felician on Friday night from David See Field, dropping a 1-0 decision to the Golden Falcons in the second game of the annual Raider Soccer Classic.
Shippensburg (0-1) fired 10 of its 13 shots in the first half and largely controlled the tempo but could not establish a consistent rhythm offensively. The timing of the Raiders was slightly askew, as the team was whistled offsides on nine occasions during the match.
Defensively, junior
Clay Sale was staunch with five saves, but the Golden Falcons capitalized on a loose ball in the 84th minute as Kevin Sinic ripped a ball into the net from the left side of the box.
In last season's matchup, a 4-3 overtime victory by Shippensburg, Sinic recorded a hat trick in the first 12 minutes of the contest.
SU had one late chance on a corner kick in the 89th minute that culminated with a point-blank shot by sophomore
Derrick Roy. Goalkeeper Rafal Krauze turned the shot aside and finished with four saves for the shutout.
The Raiders are back in action on Sunday with a 5:30 p.m. clash against Goldey-Beacom. The Lightning lost to UDC in Game 1 of the Raider Classic, 1-0.
