Box Score
SHIPPENSBURG, Pa. – The Shippensburg University men's soccer team overcame a tough break in the opening minute of Friday night's PSAC opener against Lock Haven by scoring three unanswered goals and ultimately withstanding a feverish rally by the Bald Eagles in a physical 3-2 victory from David See Field.

Shippensburg (2-1, 1-0 PSAC), which had not played a game in 12 days entering Friday's match, allowed a goal off a bad bounce just 30 seconds into the contest but overcame the mistake by tying the score in the 19th minute when junior Austin Hill deftly flicked a corner kick from sophomore Oli Templeton into the left side of the net.

Hill played a hand in the second goal as well – this one off a corner kick by junior Simon Neubauer. The ball went off Hill's head, hit some traffic and traveled to junior Alex Supplee, who wasted no time firing a shot into the back of the net.

The Raiders added what proved to be a much-needed insurance goal in the 81st minute. Sophomore Derrick Roy sent a long through ball up the field onto which sophomore Jonathan DeNicola continued his run, made a dribble and deposited the shot past a drawn-out keeper.

Supplee and Hill both made big defensive plays to ultimately preserve a victory.

In the 70th minute, junior Clay Sale stopped a shot by Greg Shertzer but the rebound stayed in the box. Bald Eagle striker Martin Pletz, who had several solid scoring chances Friday night, knocked a second shot toward the goal that Supplee cleared out before it got to the end line.

Lock Haven (2-1, 1-1 PSAC) scored a goal in the 85th minute to make the score 3-2 and nearly tied the game in the final minute. With less than 15 seconds to play, the ball was deep into the SU box. It ricocheted off a couple of heads before Shertzer sent a header directly towards the top of the goal. With bodies flying, Hill made a leap at the goal line – causing the ball and his head to hit the crossbar – before the chance was cleared out and time expired.

The teams combined for 37 fouls and four yellow cards.

Shippensburg will host Slippery Rock at 6:30 p.m. Saturday from David See Field in a re-match of last year's PSAC semifinals. The Rock lost at No. 14 California (Pa.) on Friday, 1-0.
