SHIPPENSBURG, Pa. – The Shippensburg University baseball team hosted Military Appreciation Day on a sunny Friday afternoon from Fairchild Field but was unable to withstand the relentless offensive attack of No. 20 Millersville, dropping both ends of a PSAC East doubleheader by scores of 13-5 and 8-3.
Shippensburg (14-20, 7-7 PSAC East) fell behind early in both games and could not rally from its deficits. Sophomore
Tom Bush was tagged for six runs in just 1.1 innings of the opener – it was his first loss of the season. Junior
Nick Umberger threw a complete game in the nightcap and did not allow a run in his final four innings of work but was tagged for runs in the start.
Two SU seniors had strong days at the plate.
AJ Czap had three hits, two RBIs and three runs scored between the two games. He hit from the No. 2 spot in the opener and the No. 5 spot in the nightcap.
Kris Kullman had three hits, including an impressive solo home run in Game 2 that landed well on the hill over the right-center field fence.
Junior
Eric Herman was 2-for-3 with a walk in the opener and drew two more drew passes in the second game. Fellow junior
Ben Miller had two hits and a stolen base in the opening game.
The Raiders had 11 hits against Marauder Game 1 starting pitcher Derek Kline – plating five runs in four innings. Kline became Millersville's all-time hit leader in the opener with a second-inning RBI single.
Shippensburg is scheduled to travel tomorrow to Marauder Park for a 1 p.m. doubleheader with Millersville.
