KUTZTOWN, Pa. – The Shippensburg University women's lacrosse team raced out to a 8-0 lead on Tuesday afternoon and never looked back, scoring 10 times in the first half en route to a 16-10 victory over Kutztown. The team's two seniors,
Katie Brewer and
Karen Schnurr, combined to score 11 goals.
Shippensburg (4-4, 2-4 PSAC) won 20 of the 27 contested draw controls and dictated the pace of play throughout the contest. Brewer opened the scoring just 41 seconds into the contest and had a hat trick before the contest was three minutes old. Schnurr, who also led the team with four draw controls, scored twice in the first half and three more times in the second half.
The Raiders had an 8-0 lead before the match was 15 minutes old. Brewer scored five of those goals; Schnurr contributed her two goals and junior
Lauren Hauck added another. Junior
Jessica Schubach scored a goal in each half.
Sophomore
Lindsey Kennedy picked up three groundballs, won three draw controls and scored a goal to bring her season total to 15. Schubach added three draw controls to her tally and sophomore
Roxanne Brown scored SU's last goal of the opening half.
On Thursday, Shippensburg will travel to Buckhannon to face West Virginia Wesleyan.
