SHIPPENSBURG, Pa. – The Shippensburg University baseball team gave up 13 hits in each of its games played on a frigid Saturday afternoon from Fairchild Field and committed numerous defensive miscues to drop both ends of a doubleheader to PSAC Eastern Division rival Kutztown, 11-3 and 7-3.
Shippensburg (11-15, 4-4 PSAC East) scored two runs in the bottom of the first inning of the opener but scored just four runs the rest of the day. The Golden Bears erased that deficit with four runs in the second and would not trail again during the doubleheader.
Junior
Eric Herman went 3-for-4 in the opener with a run scored to pace the SU offensive attack. SU got just four hits in the nightcap along with RBIs from senior
AJ Czap and sophomore
Sam Phillips.
In the second game, junior
Kody Kibler provided some steady relief pitching with one run on five hits in four innings of work with four strikeouts. Junior
Ted Williams took the loss in the first game and sophomore
Cam Richardson sustained the loss in the nightcap.
Shippensburg will hit the road Tuesday at 3 p.m. for a single nine-inning game against Wilmington (Del.).
