SHIPPENSBURG, Pa. – Despite taking 18 shots, the No. 2 Shippensburg University field hockey team could not find the back of the cage in a 3-0 loss to West Chester on Saturday afternoon in an NCAA quarterfinal from Robb Sports Complex. The Raiders finish their season with a 17-4 record, and for the first time in four seasons, fail to make the NCAA semifinals.

The Golden Rams (15-4) gained momentum early, scoring just over two and a half minutes into the contest after three consecutive penalty corner attempts. WCU added an unassisted goal in the 28th minute, just before Shippensburg had its best opportunity to score in the half.

In the last 1:30 of the period, SU dominated possession and attempted five penalty corners and got off four shot attempts. But WCU goalkeeper Kristin Arnold – who was stout in goal all game and finished with nine saves – made three stops in the sequence.

For the second game in a row, the Raiders had an untimed penalty corner attempt at the end of the first half, but unlike in the PSAC Championship game versus Bloomsburg, SU was unable to score off it. Shippensburg finished the game with 20 penalty corners, 11 more than West Chester attempted.

The Raiders had another great scoring opportunity seven minutes into the second period when Kristina Taylor was fouled inside the scoring arc with the ball. Sophomore Bre White attempted the penalty stroke, but the shot went wide.

Just under seven minutes later, the Golden Rams added their final goal of the afternoon, when Brynn Adams scored off of a penalty corner attempt.

Sophomore Carenna Neely replaced junior Ciarra Delost in goal at the start of the second half and made four saves in the period, including a high save off of a WCU penalty stroke at the 56th minute of the contest. Delost finished the afternoon with one save.

Junior Ashley Taylor led the Raiders with six shots, while Kristina Taylor finished with four.

Kristina Taylor and fellow seniors Katie Pufnock, Jenna Stine and Alyssa Stefanadis played their last games as Raiders on Saturday.

Kristina Taylor finished her SU career with 80 goals – including 23 as a senior – good for second-most in school history, and among the Top 10 in NCAA Division II history. On Wednesday, Kristina Taylor earned her third consecutive PSAC Western Division Player of the Year award, and is believed to be the first player in conference history to claim the honor three times. Last season, she was chosen as the NFHCA Division II Player of the Year, marking the first time ever that a Raider has won the award. The senior also received her fourth consecutive selection to the All-PSAC Western Division First Team and is Shippensburg's first four-time All-PSAC player in 17 years.

Pufnock was also honored on Wednesday, earning her second consecutive All-PSAC Western Division Second Team selection. This season, she established a new career-high with 13 goals to go along with five assists. She started all 43 games the last two years and finished her career with 34 goals and 13 assists.
