SHIPPENSBURG, Pa. – The Shippensburg University volleyball team had four different players produce double-digit kills in both of its PSAC crossover matches on Saturday and earned its first five-set victory of the season with a 3-2 win over Slippery Rock in the nightcap from Heiges Field House. SU opened the day by losing a five-setter to Clarion.
Shippensburg (6-15, 3-7 PSAC) had a 2-1 lead over Clarion in Saturday's opener after a convincing victory in the third set and then had the match at 23-23 in the fourth set, but a Golden Eagle block and a Raider attack error resulted in the frenzied final frame.
Furthermore, SU had leads of 13-12, 14-13 and 15-14 in the fifth set but could not get the decisive point, as Clarion answered each time and scrapped together two points at the end for the victory. The set scores were 17-25, 25-22, 11-25, 25-23 and 17-15 in favor of the Golden Eagles.
The nightcap was no less of a battle. SU won the first set 25-21 but had to rally after dropping the second sets, 24-26 and 21-15. The Raiders raced out to a 10-3 lead in the fourth set and ultimately won the frame 25-15 before scoring six of the final seven points in the 15-10 fifth set.
