EDINBORO, Pa. – The Shippensburg University women's swimming team had highlight performances from several competitors on Saturday in a dual meet that was not decided until the final events of the afternoon from Edinboro, but the Raiders ultimately dropped a 106-99 decision to the Fighting Scots.

Senior Kristen McCandless and sophomore Julie Brown continue to shine in freestyle events. McCandless won the 500-yard freestyle by .27 seconds with a time of 5:14.05 and placed second in the 200-yard freestyle with a time of 1:57.87. Both efforts well exceeded the PSAC qualifying standard. Brown won the 50 and 100-yard freestyle with PSAC cuts of 24.75 and 54.49 seconds, respectively.

Senior Rachael Ballard posted a PSAC cut of 1:09.76 in the 100-yard breaststroke for a second-place finish. Junior Julia Brownrigg won the 200-yard individual medley in 2:18.11 and Ballard was just behind in second place with a time of 2:18.46.

Brown, Brownrigg, freshman Jen Flinchbaugh and McCandless closed out the day by winning the 200-yard freestyle relay in 1:40.65. Flinchbaugh also placed third in the 50-yard freestyle with a time of 56.46 seconds while freshman Tara Yohe completed the 1,000-yard freestyle in 11:02.03.

“I have never been more proud of a team at this point in the season after a dual meet situation than I am with this group,” head coach Tim Verge said following the meet. “They fought really hard today and swam well. I am extremely pleased with where this group is at as we prepare for the Patriot Invitational in a couple of weeks.”

Shippensburg will compete November 17-19 at the Patriot Invitational from George Mason.
