SHIPPENSBURG, Pa. – Senior Libby Woffindin had 13 kills, hit .360 and established the new Shippensburg University career record for block assists with five on Tuesday night from Heiges Field House as the Raider volleyball team earned a crucial PSAC Eastern Division victory over Millersville, 3-0. Set scores were 25-21, 25-20 and 25-20.

Shippensburg (11-18, 6-10 PSAC) now holds a one-half game lead over the Marauders for the fourth and final playoff spot from the PSAC Eastern Division with less than two weeks remaining in the regular season. Both SU and Millersville will close out the regular season on November 4 and 5 with road matches at East Stroudsburg and Lock Haven. However, the Raiders also have a road contest with Cheyney scheduled for this Friday.

Woffindin, sophomore Jill Edwards and junior Erin Flick were once again key contributors to the Raiders success. Edwards had 13 kills and just two attack errors, hitting .333. She also added nine digs. Flick had a team-high .391 hitting percentage with 11 kills and just two errors through 23 attempts.

As a team, Shippensburg hit .325. It was the fourth match of the season in which SU posted a hitting percentage of .300 or better. SU hit .405 in the second set, scoring 19 of its 25 points with kills, and totaled seven blocks for the match.

Junior Jenny Pry was another of SU's efficient hitters, ripping eight kills on just one error with a .389 percentage. In her last four matches, Pry has totaled 36 kills and hit .224 over that span.

SU held a slim 21-19 lead in the second set before a Marauder service error swayed the momentum. Sophomore Samantha Edwards converted her only attack attempt of the match with a kill and then teamed up with Woffindin for a block to make the score 24-19. After an attack error, Woffindin ended the second set with a kill.

The Raiders trailed for the early portion of the third set before a five-point run put SU ahead 17-12. The Marauders answered with a five-point run of their own to tie the score at 17-17. The teams exchanged the next four points until junior Rachel Smicker delivered her third and final kill of the match to kick start a decisive five-point run for the Raiders. Two points later, Flick ended the match with a kill.

Shippensburg hits the road this weekend for three matches in two days. SU will play Cheyney at 7 p.m. Friday before continuing its trip on Saturday with a 2:30 p.m. neutral-site clash with Stonehill and a 5 p.m. matchup against host New Haven.

Notes: Woffindin broke the previous school record of 258 that was set by Johnstown native Kali Antolik (2006-09)…Jill Edwards is seven kills short of the single-season school record of 489 set by Jenn Fuhrman in 2000 and 11 kills short of reaching fifth place on SU's career kills list.
