GREENSBURG, Pa. – Shippensburg University field hockey head coach
Bertie Landes achieved her 400th career victory on Saturday afternoon as the No. 2-ranked Raiders concluded the regular season with a 5-1 victory over PSAC Western Division opponent Seton Hill.
Senior
Kristina Taylor and junior
Ashley Taylor each scored twice for Shippensburg (16-2, 10-0 PSAC West), which officially won its third consecutive PSAC Western Division title with the victory.
Meanwhile, Landes became the 11th head coach in NCAA history (all divisions) to reach 400 career field hockey coaching victories and is the third coach to do so with 10 or more seasons spent at the Division II level. Her career record is 400-114-17, which makes for a winning percentage of .769.
Ashley Taylor and the Raiders wasted no time taking control of the contest, as the junior scored just 51 seconds into the game. Senior
Katie Pufnock scored her 13th goal of the year at the 13:55 mark off an assist from
Kristina Taylor, and
Ashley Taylor added her second unassisted goal eight minutes before halftime.
Four-and-a-half minutes into the second frame,
Kristina Taylor scored her first goal of the afternoon off an assist from junior
Jamie Levy. Twelve minutes later, the senior added her second of the day – giving her 22 on the season – off a pass from sophomore
Lauren Taylor.
All three Raiders' goalkeepers earned playing time in the victory. Junior
Ciarra Delost earned the start and played the entire first half, making three saves and giving up one goal. Sophomore
Carenna Neely came in to start the second period and made one save in 24 minutes of action before senior
Alyssa Stefanadis came in for the last 11 minutes, making two saves.
Kristina Taylor needs two goals in the postseason to tie her personal-best 24 in a season, which she set as a sophomore in 2009. Meanwhile, sophomore
Bre White needs two assists to tie the school record of 17 in a season.
The Raiders conclude the 2011 regular season with an active 28-game winning streak against PSAC West opponents that dates back to October 8, 2008.
On Friday at 3:30 p.m., Shippensburg will compete in its 12th PSAC Field Hockey Championship in 13 seasons under Landes when it faces either West Chester or C.W. Post in the conference semifinals from Robb Sports Complex.
The PSAC Championship game will be played at 2 p.m. Saturday from Robb Sports Complex and be televised by PCN.
