BLOOMSBURG, Pa. – The Shippensburg University men's swimming team won eight events on Tuesday evening from Nelson Fieldhouse Pool, including all five of the contested individual freestyles, as the Raiders won their first dual meet of the season with a 111-89 victory over Bloomsburg.

“We continue to swim well right now,” head coach Tim Verge said after the meet. “We just went six straight days with great work, and we traveled and swam strong. The team is responding to some great challenges.”

Two swimmers achieved PSAC cuts in winning their events. Senior Joe Keefe won the 100-yard backstroke in 55.18 seconds while junior Eddie Lanoue won the 50-yard freestyle in 22 seconds flat. LaNoue, who also won the 100-yard freestyle, swam the second leg of the 400-yard freestyle relay that finished in 3:21.44.

Sophomore #R.J. Phiambolis# won two events – the 200 and 500-yard freestyle – with times of 1:50.28 and 5:01.69.  Junior Eric Naylor won the 100-yard butterfly in 55.11 seconds and freshman Brennan Wolter set the pace in the 1,000-yard freestyle with a time of 10:26.03.

Naylor was the third leg of the 200-yard medley relay squad that won the event in 1:39.31. He was joined by sophomore Ryan Westley, senior Evan Manning and junior Shawn Robbins.

“We are about one month away from the Patriot Invitational at George Mason and I like where we are,” Verge said. “Our seniors are doing a super job with leadership. We need to stay in the groove.”

Shippensburg will swim from Donald N. Miller Pool at 1 p.m. Saturday in a dual meet against Fairmont State. SU will only have one other home dual meet during the season, and it will not take place until January 20 against IUP.
