SHIPPENSBURG, Pa. – The Shippensburg University women's soccer team was unable to come back from an early deficit on Saturday afternoon, falling to No. 23 Edinboro, 2-0, from David See Field. It was the first time this season that SU lost a game by more than one goal.
The Raiders (5-7-3, 3-6-2 PSAC) outshot the Fighting Scots (11-3, 8-3), 15-8, but played from behind for most of the game. Just over three minutes into the contest, Edinboro's Elizabeth Debo got a shot over the head of SU sophomore goalkeeper
Shelbie Rackley. Senior defender
Emily Andrew closed in on the goal in an attempt to clear the shot, but was unable to get her foot on it as it bounced into the back of the net.
The Fighting Scots added another goal later in the half, when Karisa Fernandez found Samantha Kaiser for her 12th goal of the season.
Rackley finished the first half with three saves before being relieved by sophomore
Samantha Wood after halftime. Wood made one save, as the Raiders' defense buckled down in the period, allowing just one Edinboro shot attempt.
Freshman
Michal Sanders totaled five shots, while sophomore
Ashley Vellucci and junior
Katie Leverentz each had three. Sanders leads the Raiders with 35 shot attempts this season.
Shippensburg travels to East Stroudsburg on Tuesday night for a 7:30 p.m. contest.
