SHIPPENSBURG, Pa. – The Shippensburg University volleyball team took the third set of its Friday night match with Lock Haven but ultimately dropped a PSAC Eastern Division decision to the front-running Bald Eagles, 3-1, by set scores of 25-22, 25-16, 24-26, 25-19.
Shippensburg (6-16, 3-9 PSAC East) hit .211 in the first set and had a 21-20 lead in the opening frame before the Bald Eagles scored five of the final six points to take the lead. SU had to rally in the third set, overcoming a 21-18 deficit with two kills and a block to tie the score and ultimately win the frame with a kill by junior
Erin Flick.
Lock Haven (11-8, 8-4 PSAC East) thrived on outstanding performances from reigning PSAC East Player of the Year Gao Xuan and sophomore Bailey Farthing. Xuan led all players with 21 kills and added 15 digs, while Farthing had 11 kills, hit .375 and totaled eight blocks.
The Raiders were paced offensively by sophomore
Jill Edwards, who contributed another double-double with 18 kills and 11 digs. Junior
Jenny Pry added nine kills, while Flick and junior
Andrea Heimsoth each had six. Heimsoth hit .500, had 34 assists and 18 digs. Junior
Lauren Murphy was solid from the back row with a game-high 26 digs.
Shippensburg returns to action at 1 p.m. Saturday from Heiges Field House with a PSAC East contest against East Stroudsburg. SU will also play Chowan at 4 p.m.
