SHIPPENSBURG, Pa. – The No. 2-ranked Shippensburg University field hockey team shut out No. 6 Indiana (Pa.) on the road Tuesday afternoon with a five-goal second half and the sixth career hat trick from senior
Kristina Taylor.
The game was scoreless for all but three seconds of the first half, when Taylor knocked in a shot off a pass from sophomore
Lauren Taylor at the 34:57 mark.
The Raiders (13-2, 7-0 PSAC West) added a second goal shortly into the second half, when
Kristina Taylor assisted senior
Katie Pufnock 2:33 into the period for Pufnock's 12th goal on the season and a 2-0 lead over the Crimson Hawks (9-5, 5-2).
Just over 10 minutes later, sophomore
Bre White added her 16th goal of the season off of Taylor's second assist of the game. A pair of juniors linked up on SU's fourth goal of the contest when
Ashley Taylor assisted
Taylor Jones for her seventh score on the year. Jones finished the afternoon with a team-high six shots.
Kristina Taylor knocked in the Raiders' last two goals of the game, the first off a give-and-go from White and the second assisted by sophomore
Katie Shoop.
Kristina Taylor's eight points in the game tied her career high, while her 19 goals in 2011 equal what she had all of last season. With three regular season games left, she is now six short of setting her career mark for most in a season (she scored 24 goals as a sophomore in 2010).
Junior
Ciarra Delost and sophomore
Carenna Neely split the game at goalkeeper, with Delost earning the start and Neely making two saves in the second half.
On Saturday, SU travels to Mansfield for a noon tilt.
