BLOOMSBURG, Pa. – Senior
Jaren Gembe led a group of four Red Raiders in double figures with 18 points on Wednesday night from Nelson Fieldhouse as the Shippensburg University men's basketball team withstood a late rally to earn a 74-72 road win at Bloomsburg.
Shippensburg (6-9, 1-2 PSAC East) took a 7-0 lead in the contest and never trailed despite the Huskies getting within two points of the lead on a couple of occasions. SU led by eight points with 19 seconds remaining and had to sweat out a late barrage of three-pointers by the home team to earn the win.
The Red Raiders posted a positive assist-to-turnover ratio for the seventh straight game and the ninth time in 15 contests. In addition to his scoring output, Gembe dished out five assists and did not commit a turnover in 36 minutes on the floor.
Junior
Dane Lauber had a whale of a game, scoring 12 points and grabbing eight rebounds. He hit several clutch shots in the second half and was a big asset down the stretch in the contest.
Freshman
Dylan Edgar also had an outstanding second half, playing very active around the hoop and scoring eight of his 10 points in the final frame. Edgar also paced the Red Raiders with nine rebounds.
Junior
Craig Van Scyoc had 11 points, shooting 2-of-3 from beyond the arc, while junior forward
Will Royal added nine points, seven rebounds and two assists. Sophomore
Will Kirkland continued his outstanding work off the bench with eight points, four rebounds and three assists in 23 minutes.
Bloomsburg (5-9, 1-2 PSAC East) got 18 points from Trevon Johnson and 15 points from Jamar Smack.
Shippensburg will host Mansfield at 3 p.m. Saturday from Heiges Field House.
