NEW HAVEN, Conn. - Four Lady Raiders scored multiple goals on Sunday afternoon from Jess Dow Field as the SU women's field hockey team scored just 1:53 into its contest with Saint Michael's and never looked back during a convincing 9-0 victory over the Purple Knights in a neutral-site match hosted by Southern Connecticut State University.
Shippensburg (2-0) got its first tally from senior
Amanda Strous, who tipped in an entry feed by freshman
Katie Shoop. Less than three minutes later, junior
Kristina Taylor scored her second goal in two games with a strong blast from the top of the circle. Before 20 minutes had passed, SU had totaled five goals, including another from Taylor and a pair of strikes by sophomore
Sam Langone. Strous assisted on one of those goals.
Freshman
Bre White reeled off two goals in a five-minute span, bring her season total to three. Fellow freshman
Lauren Taylor assisted on the second goal by White and then recorded a tally of her own with a tip-in during the final five minutes of the first half. Taylor scored SU's only goal of the second half off an assist by sophomore
Kerry Senderling.
All three goaltenders patrolled the cage for at least 19 minutes of action. Sophomore
Ciarra Delost started and earned the victory, departing after 23 minutes with Shippensburg holding a 6-0 lead. Junior
Alyssa Stefanadis made one save in 19:20 and freshman
Carenna Neely made three saves in her collegiate debut.
SU out-shot the Purple Knights 26-0 in the first half and 34-5 for the game. The Lady Raiders also had eight penalty corners.
Shippensburg returns to action next Saturday at Seton Hill. Game time is set for 1 p.m.
