SHIPPENSBURG, Pa. - A trio of Lady Raiders recorded double-doubles on Wednesday night from Heiges Field House as the Shippensburg University women's volleyball team rallied to win the final two sets in a 3-2 victory over Fairmont State. Set scores were 25-17, 16-25, 22-25, 25-17 and 15-9.

Shippensburg (7-9) has now won three of its last four matches and has needed at least four sets in each contest. In fact, three of the last four matches for the Lady Raiders have gone the distance. Only five of SU's 16 matches have been decided in straight sets, with the Lady Raiders winning four of them.

SU had a strong first set, hitting .270 from the floor, but struggled offensively in the two sets that it dropped. The Lady Raiders rebounded in the final two sets, hitting .290 in the fourth and an impressive .346 in the fifth and final set.

Offensively, freshman Jill Edwards led the way with 17 kills and hit .279 for the match. Sophomores Jenny Pry and Erin Flick added 14 kills and eight kills respectively. Off the bench, sophomore Rachel Smicker was outstanding, hitting .600 (7 kills, 1 error, 10 attempts) and contributing four block assists.

Setting up the hitters once again was sophomore Andrea Heimsoth, who totaled 37 assists but also added four valuable service aces. SU totaled 13 aces in the match, including three from freshman Ellie Ressler.

Fairmont State (12-5) ripped kills left and right in the second set, hitting .455 as a team. Overall, Haley Lippert had 19 kills and hit .349 while Amber Wilson added 10 and hit .412.

Shippensburg will travel to face Cheyney on Friday night before finishing its weekend roadswing at 7 p.m. Saturday from Kutztown.
