INDIANA, Pa. – The Shippensburg University volleyball team finished up a perfect Saturday at the IUP Tournament by defeating Davis & Elkins and West Virginia State in straight sets from Memorial Field House. With the strong finish, SU finished the tournament by winning three of its four matches.
Shippensburg (4-4) defeated Davis & Elkins by set scores of 25-21, 25-21 and 25-13. Junior
Libby Woffindin paced the attack with eight kills and three service aces while hitting .400. Freshman
Jill Edwards also added eight kills and delivered 11 digs.
At setter, sophomore
Andrea Heimsoth and junior
Julie Fye chipped in with 19 and 10 assists respectively.
The second match of the day proved to be more of the same as SU defeated West Virginia State by set scores of 25-16, 25-18 and 25-13.
The Lady Raiders ended the match with a 40-23 advantage in kills. Edwards led the team with nine kills ad hit .350 while Woffindin and sophomore
Jenny Pry each totaled eight. Pry also added a team-high 12 digs. Sophomore
Erin Flick added four kills without an error along with four service aces.
Shippensburg returns to action on September 17 with a PSAC crossover hosted by East Stroudsburg. The Lady Raiders begin the weekend at noon against IUP.
