SHIPPENSBURG, Pa. – The bats for the Shippensburg University baseball team were held relatively in check on Saturday afternoon from Fairchild Field as the visiting Millersville Marauders used a pair of strong pitching efforts to sweep the Red Raiders in a PSAC Eastern Division doubleheader, 6-1 and 3-1.

Shippensburg (9-22, 4-6 PSAC East) fell behind 2-0 in the opening game but got back-to-back doubles in the fourth inning from sophomore right fielder Cody Kulp and sophomore designated hitter Jimmy Miller to get within one run. Marauder starter Derek Kline limited SU for the rest of the way, allowing just three hits while striking out nine batters for his second win of the season.

Millersville (14-15, 8-6 PSAC East) got another strong start in the second game from Ryan Stauffer despite a run in the opening inning. Sophomore shortstop Ben Miller led off the second game with a double into the gap and scored on a wild pitch with one out. The Red Raiders would get its first two runners on base in the sixth inning but could not produce another run in the game.

Sophomore Nick Umberger started the opening game and went six innings, allowing four runs on seven hits while striking out seven batters. Fellow sophomore Ryan Rehman held the Marauders scoreless on just three hits through the first five innings of Game 2 but struggled in the sixth, allowing three runs.

The Red Raiders will host Bloomsburg at 1 p.m. Tuesday in a PSAC Eastern Division doubleheader.
