MANSFIELD, Pa. – Sophomore shortstop
Eric Herman had four hits and junior designated hitter
Jesse Smith had four RBIs on Saturday afternoon for the Shippensburg University baseball team but the Red Raiders dropped both games of a doubleheader to Mansfield, 18-7 and 3-2.
Shippensburg (12-32, 6-14 PSAC East) scored two runs in the second inning of the opener with an RBI-double by senior third baseman
Kevin Scholly and an RBI-triple by Smith. Unfortunately, the Mountaineers rallied for a host of runs in the second and third innings off sophomore

Kyle Chronister.
After an RBI-single by Herman in the fourth inning, the Red Raiders plated four runs with two outs in the fifth. Sophomore left fielder
Tyler Uphouse hit an RBI-single that plated junior first baseman
Kris Kullman and Smith then hit a two-run single.
The second game featured a pitcher's duel between sophomore
Nick Umberger and Mansfield's Andy Young. Umberger allowed three runs on eight hits in a complete game while striking out four. SU took a 1-0 lead in the first inning on a groundout by Smith but the Mountaineers answered with a run in the bottom of the frame.
Mansfield (26-14, 11-9 PSAC East) scored two runs in the third inning to take the lead before Shippensburg got one run back in the sixth when sophomore
Jimmy Miller hit a double and eventually came around to score on a sacrifice fly by sophomore
Zach Seaman. SU got the tying run to third base in the seventh but could not drive him home.
The Red Raiders host Shepherd at 3 p.m. Tuesday from Fairchild Field.
