Eleven Different Lady Raiders Net Goals In Lopsided Victory For SU Women’s Lacrosse

Sigel, Schnurr score four goals in win; Kearney makes five saves

SHIPPENSBURG, Pa. - The Shippensburg University women's lacrosse team had 11 different players net a goal on a sunny and pleasant Monday afternoon from Robb Sports Complex in a lopsided victory over Shepherd, a first-year varsity program.

Shippensburg (4-3) got four goals each from senior Sandy Sigel and junior Karen Schnurr while sophomore Lauren Hauck also picked up a hat trick to complement an assist and two caused turnovers.

A couple of Lady Raiders picked up their first collegiate goals in the contest. Sophomore Ali Cross earned her second straight start at the attack position and during her time in the field she picked up two groundballs, won two draw controls and caused two turnovers in addition to scoring her first collegiate goal.

Two other freshmen, Roxanne Brown and Jenna Massimo, dented the twine for the first time in their young careers. Massimo scored twice while Brown added two groundballs and two draw controls.

Two players did not score goals on Monday but had productive minutes on the field. Sophomore Jessica Schubach was feeding players left and right and tallied five assists to go along with two groundballs. Senior Gayle Kuntzmann caused three turnovers and picked up four groundballs in limited action.

Freshman Lindsey Kennedy and senior Lena Stoneburner each scored two goals in the contest, with Kennedy moving into the team lead for points with two assists as well. Senior Liz DiNunno, junior Rachael Murray and freshman Sarah Chrencik also added goals. In all, Shippensburg totaled 22 goals in the contest.

Defensively, sophomore Meghan Kearney allowed just two goals and made five saves for the victory.

The Lady Raiders will begin a crucial stretch of PSAC Eastern Division play at 4 p.m. Wednesday with a contest against Bloomsburg from Robb Sports Complex.
