SHIPPENSBURG, Pa. -
Senior Gayle Kuntzmann tied a season high by scoring four goals on Saturday afternoon from Robb Sports Complex while junior Katie Brewer added a pair of tallies as the Shippensburg University women's lacrosse team battled No. 2 Lock Haven but could not stave off the visitors, dropping a 16-8 decision to the Bald Eagles.

Shippensburg (3-3) put forth a determined effort in the opening 20 minutes and battled toe-to-toe with the talented Bald Eagles. The Lady Raiders got two goals from Kuntzmann and were tied 2-2 until a momentum-changing 6-0 run put the visitors in control. A goal by Elyse Fisher with 10:52 left in the first half put Lock Haven up 3-2, and the Bald Eagles continued their response by scoring three goals in a 46-second span.

The Lady Raiders played within one goal of the Bald Eagles in the second half and recorded edges in all of the major categories over the final 30 minutes of play, including shots (13-8), groundballs (14-9) and draw controls (7-5). Head coach Mia Gambino installed sophomore Ali Cross for every draw on the afternoon and that helped SU record a season-high 13 draw controls, including six by freshman Lindsey Kennedy and four by Kuntzmann.

Kuntzmann had a whale of a performance on Saturday with one of the best all-around statistical efforts in her career. In addition to her four-goal effort, picked up five groundballs, and caused four turnovers while not committing one of her own. Brewer added an assist, two groundballs, one draw control and one caused turnover in the contest.

Junior Rachael Murray and sophomore Lauren Hauck also scored goals on the afternoon for Shippensburg. Senior Lena Stoneburner and sophomore Meghan Borgoyn each picked up three groundballs while sophomore Meghan Kearney made seven saves and caused two turnovers in defeat.

The Lady Raiders will continue its three-game homestand at 4 p.m. Monday against Shepherd. The Rams are a first-year varsity program.
