DOYLESTOWN, Pa. – The Shippensburg University wrestling team came up on the wrong end of two dual matches Saturday after a 24-22 loss to Mercyhurst and a 50-0 defeat at the hands of host Delaware Valley at James Work Gymnasium.

In the first match with PSAC-foe Mercyhurst, Shippensburg (6-5) charged out of the gates to win the first three bouts. Sophomore Justin Morris jump-started the effort with a first-period pin of Mercyhurst's John Worthington. Freshman Simon Rice followed suit with a second period pin of his own at the 3:42 mark.

Redshirt senior Nate Nauroth, currently third in the East Region rankings, pushed the Red Raider lead to 15 with a decision win over Mercyhurst's Tony D'urso. The win takes Nauroth's season record to 9-3.

Mercyhurst (5-11) pulled within one point after receiving a forfeit win by region-best Josh Shields at 165 pounds.

Shippensburg again widened the gap with a major decision win by redshirt junior Chris Barrick. Barrick now holds a season record of 16-2 and sits third in the East Region rankings. Redshirt senior Jon Hade picked up a decision and helped lead the Red Raiders back to an eight-point advantage.

The lead, however, would not hold. Mercyhurst's Chris Nocchi scored a pin at 197 pounds and regionally-ranked Fred Hale secured the win for the Lakers with a major decision at 285 pounds.

Shippensburg dropped its second match to Division III powerhouse Delaware Valley 50-0. Ranked No. 5 in the most recent Division III poll, the Aggies (12-2) picked up bonus points in seven matches. Delaware Valley also scored a victory over Mercyhurst later in the day, 31-10.

The Shippensburg grapplers return to action on February 12 when they travel to Erie to square off with No. 8 Gannon. The match is scheduled to begin at 7 p.m. from the Hammermill Center.
