Men’s Basketball Drops Neutral-Site Contest To Felician, 70-59

Edgar records double-double; Van Scyoc leads SU with 15 points

EAST STROUDSBURG, Pa. – Freshman Dylan Edgar posted his second double-double of the season and junior Craig Van Scyoc scored a team-high 15 points on Friday afternoon from Koehler Fieldhouse but the Shippensburg University men's basketball team dropped a 70-59 decision to Felician at East Stroudsburg's 46th Annual Rotary Classic presented by State Farm.

Shippensburg (3-3) trailed by 12 points at halftime and clawed its way back within one point of the lead in the final six minutes of play. The Red Raiders stayed within one possession of the lead until the final 90 seconds before Felician clinched the victory with transition baskets and timely free throws.

Felician (2-3) committed just eight turnovers in the contest and got solid production from its 3-4-5 men. Suquan Gary led all players with 18 points on 7-of-11 shooting while Devon Foster added 15 points. The Golden Falcons only shot 6-of-23 from the beyond the arc, but their three-pointers were timely and typically quashed one of the comeback attempts by Shippensburg.

Edgar continues to produce as a viable post presence for the Red Raiders. He finished with 11 points and 14 rebounds, shooting 4-of-7 from the floor. In his last four games, Edgar has totaled 34 points and 34 rebounds, an average of 8.5 per game.

The Red Raiders shot 31.8 percent from three-point range, its lowest proficiency of the young season. Van Scyoc was 4-of-6 from beyond the arc, while senior Jaren Gembe was 3-of-9 from distance and totaled 13 points. Gembe entered the contest 14-of-18 from three-point range this season and has contributed at least three three-pointers in each of the last three games.

Sophomore Lamar Jackson was the fourth SU starter in double figures, scoring 10 points to complement six assists. Jackson was 6-of-10 from the free-throw line in the contest, as the Red Raiders shot 14-of-24 (58 percent) overall from the charity stripe.

SU returns to action at 3 p.m. Saturday against Edinboro from ESU's Koehler Fieldhouse.
