Volleyball Clinches No. 3 Seed in PSAC East After 3-0 Win Over West Chester in Regular Season Finale

Shippensburg will travel to face No. 2 seed Kutztown in the PSAC quarterfinals

WEST CHESTER, Pa. – The Shippensburg University volleyball team closed out the regular season with another impressive performance, achieving a 3-0 victory over West Chester on Friday night from Hollinger Field House. The victory assures SU of the No. 3 seed in the PSAC East and sets up a PSAC quarterfinal matchup at Kutztown for the second straight season.

Set scores were 25-19, 25-19 and 25-22.

Shippensburg (19-15, 9-10 PSAC) hit .267 for the match, maintaining its consistent offensive success. Freshman Jill Edwards was outstanding, ripping 14 kills on just one attack error to finish the match with a .351 hitting percentage. With 10 digs, she achieved her second double-double of the week and her 14th of the season.

Junior Libby Woffindin and sophomore Jenny Pry each totaled eight kills – with Woffindin also serving an ace and Pry totaling two block assists.

Sophomore Erin Flick was sound in all facets of her game Friday night, slamming five kills, totaling five block assists, recording four digs and serving two aces. Fellow sophomore Rachel Smicker was efficient in her attack attempts, hitting .333 and totaling five kills.

Sophomore setter Andrea Heimsoth finished with 25 assists and eight digs. Junior Julie Fye had 14 assists and seven digs.

Last season, Shippensburg traveled to Kutztown for the PSAC quarterfinals and earned a 3-1 victory over the Golden Bears. The season series is currently at 1-1, with each team winning on its home floor.
