THE POWER OF TEN
Shippensburg was picked 10th in the preseason coaches poll. There are only 10 PSAC institutions that sponsor men's soccer.
Shippensburg has won 10 consecutive matches - a school record. Slippery Rock was the last team to defeat the Red Raiders: 4-1 on September 25. The Rock is also the defending league champion.
Senior
MIles Harriger has paced the team with 10 goals this season. Other than All-American Geoff Bloes, Harriger is the first Red Raider to achieve a double-digit goal total since Andy Jennings in 2004.
Sophomore
Clay Sale has recorded 10 victories in net this season - posting a 1.50 goals-against average and four shutouts.
Sophomore
Michael Celius wears No. 10. An All-PSAC selection as a freshman, Celius ranks second on the team in points having scored eight goals and four assists this season.
Senior
Dave Rostad, a Gettysburg native like Celius, has produced six goals and four assists this season. By elementary standards, six and four combine to make 10 - but by soccer standards, Rostad's 16 points rank third on the team.
Jeremy Spering is the 10th head men's soccer coach in Shippensburg's history. He is a 2002 graduate of Slippery Rock seeking his first victory against his alma mater. It is his fourth matchup against The Rock.
Ten is the number of assists that Shippensburg totaled in 2009. The Red Raiders surpassed that total in the seventh game of the season.
OTHER NOTES:
Shippensburg can set a school record for victories in a season (14) with a win over The Rock. SU also won 13 games in 1989 and 1996.
Shippensburg has already set a school record for consecutive victories. With a victory, SU would also establish a new school record for consecutive games unbeaten (11).
Shippensburg entered the 2010 season having won just two games in two years. Spering entered his third season having not won a home game or a conference game. In 2010, SU is 7-2 at home and 6-3 in the PSAC.
Shippensburg is winless in its last nine meetings with Slippery Rock, last earning a victory over The Rock on Sept. 25, 2004. The teams played to a 2-2 tie on Sept. 17, 2007.
Shippensburg has scored 44 goals in 2010. The program totaled just 23 goals from 2008-09.
Shippensburg's only unshared PSAC championship in men's soccer came in 1975. To win that title, SU defeated Slippery Rock, 1-0.
Slippery Rock will be playing their fifth game at David See Field in two years. The Rock has been a guest at Shippensburg for the last two season-opening Red Raider Classic tournaments. The only time that SU faced The Rock in such a matchup was a 2-0 victory for the visitors in 2009.
