ERIE, Pa. – The hitters fared well for the Shippensburg University volleyball team on Friday in two tough PSAC crossovers from the Hammermill Center, but the Lady Raiders could not overcome its struggles with serves in dropping a three-set match to Gannon and a four-set match to Mercyhurst.

Shippensburg (10-12, 3-8 PSAC) dropped a hard-fought match to the Golden Knights by set scores of 25-22, 25-21 and 25-20. The Lakers earned their victory by set scores of 25-21, 25-16, 23-25 and 25-20.

In the opener against the Golden Knights, three SU hitters had sensational performances. Freshman Jill Edwards ripped 12 kills without an attack error, hitting .462. She finished with her 10th double-double of the season by adding 10 digs.

Sophomore Erin Flick had the highest hitting percentage of any Lady Raider at .545, striking six kills without an attack error on 11 attempts. She also had two aces and three block assists. Junior Libby Woffindin posted a game-high 14 kills, hitting .370 with three block assists.

Against the Lakers, Edwards ripped 20 kills for the fourth time this season, hitting .259. Sophomore setter Andrea Heimsoth had a double-double with 40 assists and 10 digs, while Woffindin had 13 kills and hit .286.

Overall, SU hit .257 against the Golden Knights and .211 against the Lakers. The Lady Raiders have hit .200 or better in seven of their last eight matches after achieving the feat just twice through the season's first 14 matches.

Shippensburg's struggles came in relation to serves. The Lady Raiders allowed 10 aces in the opener and had six service errors against Gannon before allowing 11 aces and committing 12 service errors against the Lakers.

The Lady Raiders will finish their PSAC crossover weekend at 1 p.m. Saturday from Edinboro with a match against the Fighting Scots.
