SHIPPENSBURG, Pa. – After dropping the first set to visiting Shepherd on Wednesday night from Heiges Field House, the Shippensburg University women's volleyball team fought back and rode a stellar performance from junior
Libby Woffindin to defeat the visiting Rams 3-1 by set scores of 20-25, 25-15, 27-25 and 25-20.
Shippensburg (10-10) earned its second victory of the season over Shepherd with some success in key rallies, particularly late in the third set. With the match tied at 1-1, freshman
Samantha Edwards provided some momentum by teaming with sophomore
Erin Flick for a block and then ripping a kill to put SU up 24-23.
After falling behind 25-24, SU took advantage after a Shepherd ball-handling error to take control of the decisive set. Flick and freshman

Whenever SU needed a lift on Wednesday night, it seemed Woffindin was there to provide the pick-me-up. Continuing her breakthrough season, Woffindin finished with nine kills to just one error, hitting .381. Her most impressive contributions came on the block, as she totaled two solo blocks and six block assists. From behind the line, Woffindin also delivered a career-high seven service aces.
Jill Edwards finished with a team-high 10 kills and 11 digs for her ninth double-double of the season. Sophomore
Jenny Pry added nine kills and seven digs, hitting .103. Sophomore
Andrea Heimsoth contributed 25 assists and four valuable service aces.
The Lady Raiders will compete this weekend in the second PSAC crossover of the season. SU will play Friday from Gannon, facing the host Golden Knights at noon and against Mercyhurst at 5 p.m. in a neutral-site match. SU will travel Saturday to face Edinboro at 1 p.m.
