WHEELING, W.Va. – The Shippensburg University volleyball team split a pair of matches on Saturday afternoon from the Alma Grace McDonough Health and Recreation Center, starting the day with a sweep of West Virginia Wesleyan before being swept by host Wheeling Jesuit.
Set scores of the victory over the Bobcats were 25-10, 25-11 and 25-18. The match against the Cardinals featured set scores of 25-11, 25-15 and 25-23.
Shippensburg (17-15) was paced offensively in the opener by freshman
Jill Edwards, who had nine kills and seven digs. Junior
Libby Woffindin pitched in with six kills, two solo blocks, five block assists and three aces – bringing her single-season, school-record total for block assists into triple digits.
In the nightcap, Edwards ripped 10 kills, while sophomore 5-2 setter
Andrea Heimsoth added 12 assists and six digs. Heimsoth had 15 assists and two aces in the victory over the Bobcats.
Shippensburg returns to action at 7 p.m. Tuesday from Millersville.
