LOCK HAVEN, Pa. – The Shippensburg University volleyball team had its second five-set match of the season against PSAC Eastern Division frontrunner Lock Haven but dropped Saturday's showdown from Thomas Fieldhouse. Set scores were 16-25, 25-13, 14-25, 25-18, 8-15.
Shippensburg (15-14, 6-10 PSAC) received another outstanding offensive performance from freshman
Jill Edwards, who ripped 18 kills and had five digs along with one block assist. She accounted for 31 percent of the team's kills in the match.
Three players had at least 10 kills for Shippensburg, including an 11-kill effort from junior
Libby Woffindin that included one solo block and seven block assists. Sophomore
Erin Flick had one of the best hitting performances of her young career with 10 kills while adding a solo block and five block assists.
Defensively, sophomore libero
Lauren Murphy had a team-high 13 digs, while sophomore
Jenny Pry had 10 digs to go along with four kills and three block assists. Sophomore
Rachel Smicker paced the Lady Raiders with eight block assists while adding three kills.
SU's setters, sophomore
Andrea Heimsoth and junior
Julie Fye, combined for 36 assists and 12 digs. Heimsoth had 22 assists, seven digs and two service aces.
Shippensburg returns to action at 7 p.m. Friday from Heiges Field House with a re-match against PSAC Eastern Division rival Kutztown.
