CHESWICK, Pa. – Senior Dave Rostad scored twice in the first half to help the Shippensburg University men's soccer team match the longest winning streak in the 49-year history of the program with a 3-0 non-conference road victory on Wednesday afternoon at Point Park.

Shippensburg (10-5) has won seven consecutive matches for the first time since 1970 and reached double-digit victories in a season for the first time since 2003. SU has out-scored the opposition 17-4 during its streak and posted four shutouts during this span.

Rostad opened the scoring in the 11th minute off an assist by junior Simon Neubauer. He headed home another goal in the 20th minute off a double-assist from sophomore Taylor Hudson and senior Miles Harriger. For the season, Rostad ranks second on the team with six goals, four assists and three game-winners.

The scoring was wrapped up in the 88th minute. Freshman Derrick Roy took a throw-in from sophomore Logan Henke and scored his third goal of the season.

Sophomore goalkeeper Clay Sale made two saves in the first half while fellow sophomore Andrew Foran made three saves in the second half. The shutout victory is the sixth this season for the Raiders, who have allowed one goal or less in 10 of their 15 matches, including six-in-a-row. Last year, SU allowed multiple goals in 11 of its 18 matches.

The Red Raiders will host UPJ at 4 p.m. Saturday from David See Field.

Notes: Shippensburg shared the 1970 title with Millersville, and the two teams played to a 0-0 tie in the playoffs. However, the Marauders were selected to represent the Eastern Division in the PSAC Championships game on the basis of more corner kicks than Shippensburg. It is good to know, 40 years later, that the rules for advancing teams in playoffs have changed slightly.
