SHIPPENSBURG, Pa. – The Shippensburg University volleyball team maintained its solid divisional standing in the PSAC East playoff race on a 'Dig Pink' Saturday afternoon from Heiges Field House, playing into overtime to defeat West Chester in a five-set thriller before earning its first straight-set home victory of the season with a non-conference win over Glenville State.

Set scores against the Golden Rams were 25-22, 25-16, 17-25, 21-25 and 17-15.

Shippensburg (14-13, 5-9 PSAC) totaled 61 kills against West Chester, including a career-high 20 from sophomore Jenny Pry. It marked the fourth straight game and the 12th time this season that Pry has tallied double-digit kills in a match.

Junior Libby Woffindin had another marvelous performance in the middle, ripping 16 kills with just two attack errors to complement one solo block and four block assists. Freshman Jill Edwards has been battling illness recently but still managed 15 kills and a solo block.

Sophomore Erin Flick had five kills, three solo blocks and two block assists while fellow sophomore Rachel Smicker totaled three kills and four block assists. Flick teamed with Jill Edwards for the final block of the match, capping off a stretch where Shippensburg scored six of the match's final eight points.

SU improved to 7-1 against the WVIAC this season with its win over Glenville State by set scores of 25-13, 25-21 and 25-14. Junior Julie Fye closed out the Pioneers with three consecutive aces and totaled six in the match. Between the two matches, Fye recorded eight service aces and totaled 37 assists.

Freshman Ellie Ressler, a defensive specialist, was given an opportunity to attack against the Pioneers and capitalized, ripping seven kills without an error en route to a .500 hitting percentage. She also notched six digs.

Pry also added nine kills against Glenville, again a team-high. Freshman Samantha Edwards added six kills while the Lady Raiders as a team hit .257.

Shippensburg is next in action at 7 p.m. Friday from East Stroudsburg.
