SHIPPENSBURG, Pa. – Freshman forward
Bre White converted two pretty passing plays into goals on a chilly and windy Friday afternoon from Robb Sports Complex to bookend a 3-0 victory for the Shippensburg University field hockey team over non-conference opponent Seton Hill.
Shippensburg (11-0) scored its first goal just over nine minutes into the match off a penalty corner when sophomore defender
Ashley Taylor dribbled around a defender and sent a pitch-perfect cross onto the stick of White, who finished the chance by deftly shooting the ball into the open cage.
Seton Hill (7-5) played tough, as the two sides reached intermission with a 1-0 score. A key substitution by head coach
Bertie Landes came early in the second half, when sophomore
Kerry Senderling was brought into the game to play the wing – thus moving junior forward
Kristina Taylor to the middle of the field.
With a new look and a little more room to navigate, Taylor wasted no time finding the back of the cage for her ninth goal of the season. Soon after the switch, she gathered the ball in Griffin territory and dribbled through three defenders – eventually firing a shot on goal and hammering home the subsequent rebound to complete the splendid individual effort.
Midway through the final frame, White re-directed a feed by freshman
Katie Shoop into an open goal - her 10th tally of the season. SU finished the game with 15 penalty corners and a 25-3 edge in shots.
Sophomore goalkeeper
Ciarra Delost made two saves in the win. SU has limited its opponents to one goal or less in 10 of its 11 matches this season, including five shutouts.
Shippensburg returns to action at 4 p.m. Wednesday from Slippery Rock.
