WEST CHESTER, Pa. - Senior
Miles Harriger netted his seventh goal of the season in the 27th minute of play on Tuesday afternoon to propel the Shippensburg University men's soccer team to its fifth-straight victory, 1-0 at West Chester. SU's current win streak is its longest in seven years.
Shippensburg (8-5, 4-3 PSAC) took advantage of one of its few scoring opportunities on Tuesday and once again played strong defense – making plays when needed and riding the efforts of sophomore
Clay Sale (seven saves) to win the match despite being out-shot and out-cornered.
Sophomore
Michael Celius provided the assist on Harriger's goal and has totaled at least one point in five matches. He has four goals and two assists this season.
Harriger's goal was his third game winner this season. With seven goals this season, he has matched his combined scoring output of the previous three seasons.
The Raiders have allowed one goal or less in eight of their 13 matches this season, including five by shutout. The five shutouts are the most in one season for Shippensburg since 2005.
SU is currently tied for second place in the PSAC standings but the playoff race is wide open due to the varying amount of games played by each team. The Raiders have two conference games remaining and each will be vital to maintain the squad's playoff chances.
The first of those two PSAC contests is SU's next game on the schedule. On Saturday, Millersville (No. 8 in Atlantic Region) will face Shippensburg (No. 9 in Atlantic Region) at 4 p.m. from David See Field.
