SHIPPENSBURG, Pa. - The Shippensburg University field hockey team extended its shutout streak to start the season on Saturday afternoon while opening PSAC Western Division play from Robb Sports Complex with a 4-0 victory over regional opponent Slippery Rock.
Shippensburg (4-0, 1-0 PSAC West) once again dictated the pace of the game and out-shot The Rock by a comfortable 28-2 margin while recording 15 penalty corners. Senior
Amanda Houser played all 90 minutes in goal for her second solo shutout of the season.
Sophomore
Kristina Taylor opened the scoring just 60 seconds into the contest with her eighth tally of the season, a strike that resulted in her third game-winning goal of the season. Taylor then assisted on a goal by junior
Amanda Strous at the 3:30 mark.
Senior
Jamie Doughty extended Shippensburg's lead to three goals at the 7:10 mark and sophomore
Katie Pufnock connected for a goal at 20:31 off an assist from senior
Laura Wylde. SU held a four-goal halftime lead and no scoring occurred in the second half.
Shippensburg will have another key divisional match on Monday when the Lady Raiders travel to Erie to face Mercyhurst at 11 a.m.
