SHIPPENSBURG, Pa. - Freshman forward Katie Leverentz provided a spark to the Lady Raider offense on Tuesday evening from David See Field with the first two goals of her collegiate career while the Shippensburg women's soccer team surpassed its scoring output of the previous five games with a 3-0 victory over PSAC Eastern Division opponent Mansfield.

Shippensburg (2-4-2, 2-2-2 PSAC East) remained unbeaten at home as graduate goalkeeper Beth Long neared another school record by making five saves for her third shutout of the season. Through 65 career matches, Long has now compiled 22.5 career shutouts, which is narrowly short of the current school record of 23 held by senior Meredith Yakscoe-Markle '06.

Tuesday night's sensation was Leverentz, who scored the eventual game-winning goal less than a minute after entering the game as a substitute. Sophomore Cassie Armold fed a fine cross to senior Gayle Kuntzmann, who in turn toe-tapped the ball onto Leverentz. The freshman forward had her initial shot blocked before she hammered home the rebound in the 31st minute.

Roughly 10 minutes later, Leverentz had a nose for the goal once again by taking a feed in deep from junior Amanda Greenawalt and connecting for another strike at 41:07. Leverentz nearly had a hat trick but a second-half shot that she sent over the drawn out Mountaineer keeper trickled just wide of the net.

In the 81st minute, junior Alison Dowdrick connected for her first goal of the season after an outstanding rush by Kuntzmann. The senior forward dribbled all the way into the box and sent a perfect cross onto the foot of Dowdrick, who finished the chance with the goal.

Shippensburg will return to action on Thursday with a non-conference match against Seton Hill. Game time from David See Field is set for 7 p.m.
