SHIPPENSBURG, Pa. - The No. 1 Shippensburg University field hockey team extended its season-opening winning streak to nine games on Saturday afternoon from Robb Sports Complex by improving its defensive effort in a 3-0 shutout of No. 9 Millersville. Senior

Shippensburg (9-0) dominated the first half, out-shooting the Marauders by a 13-1 margin and recording nine penalty corners. The only goal of the opening 35 minutes came just 12:35 before intermission, as senior
Jamie Doughty caged her sixth goal of the season and second game-winner of the year off an assist from sophomore
Kristina Taylor.
In the second half, senior
Laura Wylde scored her fifth goal of the season off an assist from junior
Amanda Strous at the 43:59 mark. Less than three minutes later, Strous connected for her fourth goal of the season to round out the scoring.
Millersville (3-4) stepped up its pressure in the second half and recorded seven penalty corners while firing five shots. However, Houser was more than up to the challenge and led the defense in its sixth shutout of the young season.
A huge game is up next for Shippensburg, as the vaunted Crimson Hawks of IUP travel on Tuesday to face the Lady Raiders in a 4 p.m. matchup.
