Women's Volleyball Improves Its Play But Drops Pair Of Games On Saturday At FSU Classic

Heimsoth collects 56 assists in two games; Sorber totals 15 kills

FAIRMONT, W.Va. - The Shippensburg University volleyball team improved its play on Saturday and played two close matches but could not come away with victories at the Fairmont State classic, dropping 3-0 decisions to Bellarmine and the host Fighting Falcons from Joe Retton Arena.

Shippensburg (0-3) opened in the morning against Bellarmine, dropping the match by set scores of 25-18, 25-23 and 25-20. Leading the Lady Raiders on the attack was senior Colleen Toomey, who totaled seven kills while hitting .154. Defensively, senior Kali Antolik had three solo blocks and four assists.

In the nightcap, the Lady Raiders had a rematch with Fairmont State and played the Fighting Falcons closer but lost by set scores of 26-24, 25-21 and 25-23. Freshman Andrea Heimsoth had 31 assists and finished the day with 56 in two matches, while freshman Jenny Pry totaled 11 kills against FSU while hitting .476.

Shippensburg will return to action next weekend when it hosts the Raider Classic on Friday and Saturday.
